Nestled between the rolling hills around Ixopo town in the Ubuhlubezwe district of KwaZulu Natal, we have a few interesting activities that we like to share with visitors. Our location is conveniently close to some great tourist attractions. We can assist in arranging trips to Sani Pass, horse riding and hiking in the Drakensberg, a visit to the Ixopo Buddhist Retreat, white water rafting in Creighton, game reserve drives in Eston and fishing or scuba diving on the nearby south coast.
The Paton Express is a narrow gauge railway journey by one of three steam or diesel locomotives through the countryside immortalised by Alan Paton´s book "Cry the Beloved Country".
"... This one or two day personal tour to the fascinating missions of Marianhill, Mariathal, Emaus, Lourdes, Centocow and Reichenau. In the 1800's Trappist monks of Austrian and German descent settled in the area seeking to impart their European heritage to African communities of British Colonial Natal. Over time and with very few resources they established some of the most spectacular red brick heritage architecture in remote parts of southern KwaZulu Natal. These missions are still run by monks and nuns and to this day they remain centers of tranquility and humility in some of the most spectacular valleys and landscapes of the province..."
